Fort Myers High invited to march in London on New Year’s Day

December 5, 2016 – The Fort Myers High School Green Wave Marching Band is travelling to London to march in this year’s New Year’s Day parade.

“We get to perform in Westminster,” said Jalen Luna, Green Wave Drum Major. “There’s this grand hall that we’ve been invited to play.

Everyone is excited about it and we’re trying to portray that, especially in our halftime show music.”

“For these kids to realize that while we live in this great, wonderful community, there’s a big wide world out there,” Music Booster Treasurer, Robin Mixon, said. “They may never get to experience it if they don’t get to take this trip.”

Mark Dahlberg, a Music Educator at FMHS said the students as really looking forward to the trip. “The most exciting thing for me taking the group to London,” said Dahlberg, “is going to be when we step off that airplane and they realize that their dreams have come true, they’re in London. Really, with a little bit of help or a nice, big help, you can send some of the less fortunate students and secure their packages so that they can go to London and be a part of this awesome and amazing opportunity.”

Because of financial shortfalls not all band members will be able to go unless an ongoing fundraiser is successful. A video about the trip and fundraiser has been produced and donated by 4What Interactive, a Naples based company. To see the video, click Thanks to Mark Haffner and Brad Blackburn as well.
